Class Descriptions
Classes are a 9 month program commitment. Classes are limited to 10 students or less, in order to insure that each person gets lots of individual attention and plenty of work space.

​ Elementary Class (1st-4th grade)
​This class has been developed to encourage very young children to explore and express themselves through art activities.  Beginners class will allow students to experience drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, sculpture in small group guided-based art projects. Students will be given opportunity to explore, create, and achieve.

​Art Show will be at the end of the 9 month program and opened to the public.

Intermediate Class (5th- 8th grade) 
This class will introduce students to basic art vocabulary, skills, and art tools. Students will be encouraged to acquire new skills through studio art based projects. This class will allow students to experience ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Students will also be introduced to color theory.  Students will be given opportunity to explore, create, and achieve. 

​Art Show will be at the end of the 9 month program and opened to the public.

High School Level Class (9th-12th grade)
This is a great class for students to experiment the different disciplines before choosing a specific medium to study more in depth.  

This class will introduce students a variety of disciplines (Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Printmaking, and Ceramics) and media. Students will explore many diverse art techniques and approaches as ways of communicating their ideas. Development of technical skills and vocabulary will include all the elements and principles of art; formalism, realism, and abstraction; aesthetics and color theory. 
​Students will also be exposed to art history and appreciation through videos,discussion and art trips.
​

​Art Show will be at the end of the 9 month program and opened to the public.

​Students are invited to attend an International Art History Trip Spring 2019  to Italy. Students can receive college credit hours. More information will be provide upon request.
2nd Year Students
Students who are in their second year may choose to explore one medium more in depth.

Drawing Classes   
The drawing class will begin by introducing the building blocks for great drawing and will develop into composition, human proportions for drawing the figure and lastly drawing landscape and cityscapes or interiors that use perspective. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of different drawing tools and experiment with various paper surfaces and learn to create texture effect. Students will explore the use of  Soft & Oil Pastels, Ink, Color Pencils, Charcoal and Graphite. Students will develop their skills in the Elements of Art and while utilizing the Principles of Art.
Students will draw from still-life, landscape, life models from observation.  Painting styles and art movements will be explored.

Painting Classes  
This class will introducing the building blocks of painting.  Students will be introduced to Encaustic, Oil painting, Acrylic, Watercolor, Sumi-e Ink and Gouache; learning the characteristics of each while developing their skills in the Elements of Art (line, value, shape & form, texture, space and color) and while utilizing the Principles of Art (balance, emphasis, rhythm, harmony, variety and unity) Students will learn color mixing, value scales, and different techniques for applying paint. 
Painting from still-life, landscape, and life models from observation will be geared towards realism; at the same time, various other painting styles and art movements will be explored.

​Art Show will be at the end of the 9 month program and opened to the public.

Sculpture/Ceramics
Students will explore Sculpture and Ceramics. This course helps students build their skills in 3-D art techniques including working with clay, plastercraft, wire, paper, and more. Students will learn about various sculptural techniques and processes of three-dimension art (in the round and relief) such additive, subtractive, assemblage. Students will explore the three basic hand-building methods; pinch, coil, and slab. Students will complete sculptural and ceramic projects that show how the elements and principles of art can create a good design for a piece of art.

Photography  / Printmaking Class  
The first half of this semester I will challenge you to develop your technical skills in the use of your camera or cell phone camera along with studying the Elements & Principles of Design and how they are employed in your photography in developing strong visual compositions.

The second half of this semester, we will expand on the techniques already learned and also begin to add creativity to your photographs such as alternative photography printing process with printmaking. Students will learn to create collagraphs, monoprints, silk screens, relief  and wood cut prints.


Students are required to have a digital camera and an ipad or tablet.
